Yoyo Unboxing – MagicYoyo Katana

This video is the Yoyo unboxing of the MagicYoyo Katana by LorenzYo Cubing.

The MagicYoyo Katana is a bi-metal H shaped yoyo that is a lot of fun.  it comes with a golden bearing that looks and feel legit when at play.

My first impressions right out of the box is the yoyo is dead smooth.  The bearing sounds pretty cool, spins really fast and is of great quality.

Playing with this yoyo is very satisfying. It plays according to your style whether is is speed, tech, and generally hits your tricks very well.  Because of the shape, horizontal tricks are awesome with this throw.

More information about the Katana from MagicYoyo

MagicYoyo has definitely stepped up their game.  The quality of the yoyos they produce today is much improved compared to earlier models.  On the MagicYoyo Katana, the response is good.  It does not snag, nor respond late.  It feel just right.

Executing tricks and hitting binds on this yoyo is really cool.  I highly recommend the MagicYoyo Katana.  It is a fun bi-metal yoyo of great quality.

Bay Area Classic Yoyo Championships 2017 – BAC 2017 Results and Livestream

The 20th Bay Area Classic happened Saturday, June 3, 2017 and was such an awesome event.  Although I did not compete, I supported the competition by having LorenzYoCubing.com as a Silver Sponsor!  On top of that we officially live streamed the whole event from start to finish!

This event have historically produced many champions and yoyo experts serves as an inspiration to me and to many generations of yoyoers like me.  In fact, the very first exposure I experienced to the Yoyo world as it exist today was BAC 2015, where I met Brandon Vu, Gentry Stien and JD Steele.  I was awe struck not knowing that such an event and community exist.

LorenzYo Cubing and his family at the BAC 2017

Like me, many young people have been influenced by this event.  It is amazing to think that for 20 years, the BAC have captured the attention and imagination of generations of Yoyoers and is going strong to this day.

As I have mentioned in the previous posts, lorenzyocubing.com is a silver sponsor of the event.  In addition to that, our production crew, aka my family, went to the event and did a multi-camera live stream using the latest tech, SlingStudio.  The whole event was live streamed on my YouTube Channel.

Rubik’s Futuro Cube

A few weeks ago, I got an email from Scott Ramsey of Mind In Motion Games.  He introduced me to this cool new cube called Rubik’s Futuro Cube.  I did not know what it was so Scott shared with me the link to the website (http://www.futurocube.com).   I poked around the site to see what it was.  It turns out it is an interactive puzzle cube.

After a day or two, I received the cube in the mail and boy was I surprised as to what this thing can do.

Futuro Cube on Amazon

The Futuro Cube is pretty cool,  It is an electronic cube and needs to be charged via USB charger.  It is however more than just a cube with lights.  The first time I plugged it in, it took a deep breath.  Really it did!  The cube has speakers so the interaction is both, visual and auditory.

Right out of the box it comes with 14 different games, including one that is pretty close to how you solve a regular 3×3 Rubik’s cube.  If you are into coding you can actually download a development kit that will allow you to program your own games.

Each of the games are scored depending on how far you go.  You can then upload your scores to with the online interface.  The cube can also interact with other cubes.  If a friend has a Futuro cube in close proximity, you can challenge each other via bluetooth.Game play ranges from simple to complex and has enough variability to give hours of fun.

But being a music guy, I specially liked the piano feature which I demonstrated and embelished in the video below 🙂

Check out my video below and let me know what you think.

CAL State Yoyo Competition 2017 1A Prelims – 28th Lorenzo Penacerrada

You guys have been asking for it, so here it is, my Cal State Yoyo Competition 2017 1A Prelims performance.

Enjoy…Rant video coming soon!

Going on stage for the first time pushed my nerves to the limit.  But when I watched the video of my performance, it felt a lot worse that it looked.  I did not quite make the finals, but getting the experience is inspiring me to do it again.  (Competition Results click here).

This is definitely an event that I will continue to attend year after year.  Thank you all for hanging out and being cool.

Check out the  video and let me know what you think.

Throw Score Yoyo Review Ep#7 – CLYW Manatee

Finally I got my hands on yet another CLYW yoyo masterpiece, the CLYW Manatee.  JD Steele at YoyoBestBuy let me borrow the Manatee to try it out and to give it a Throw Score review.  My original intent was to return it after the review but I decided to keep it after throwing it around for about a week.

Response System Snow Tires

CLYW Manatee at YoyoBestBuy

Yoyos At Amazon

The Manatee is very smooth right out of the box.  It leans on the heavier side at 67 grams.  It is a metal yoyo with a bead blasted finish.  The color way is super cool.  I was able to get the teal and red blend but when it spins, the yoyo actually looks like gun metal gray.

I have scored the yoyo in the video below and have laid out the total scores at the bottom of this web page.  I added a new category that scores the yoyo’s stability while at play.  I simply put a range between Floaty and Stable.  The higher the number the more stable and the lower the number the more floaty the yoyo feels.

The CLYW Manatee is easily a “goto” yoyo.  I highly recommend it to any serious yoyo player. It is a must have.

Check out the Throw Score video of the CLYW Manatee and let me know what you think.
